It's once more October in Tucker County West Virginia and that means Native American artisans are again on their way to Thunder in the Mountains. Started back in 2019 the Thunder in the Mountains Pow Wow has been a growing event that draws in locals and gives rich lessons in cultural heritage. With a lineup that includes dancers, drummers, storytellers, flute playing, and more they also offer authentic food, vendors, and other artisan products and performances.

If you haven't attended the event in previous years it's a must attend this year as sadly 2022 will be the last year the event calls Parsons West Virginia its home as it's slated to move on next year to a new location at Cantrell's in Fayetteville WV. I for one am truly saddened by the move as I've always enjoyed this event and love taking the family to watch the dancers and listen to the drummers before browsing the vendors, picking up some fry bread and taking a seat on the riverbank to eat and watch the stream trickle by as the drums continue to play in the distance.
Ever since my childhood I've been enthralled by Native American history and culture learning about one tribe or another every chance I could and as an adult I've enjoyed visiting Tuba City AZ, walking the ruins at Mesa Verde, and watching craftsmen produce arrowheads, pottery, and paintings while shopping at Four Corners. You don't have to travel the country to get a glimpse into Native American arts all you need to do is visit Five Rivers Campground this October 8th & 9th and help make the fourth and final Thunder in the Mountains pow wow to be located in Tucker County a huge success.
