Growing up I was always hard headed and constantly had my fair share of run ins with the law and authority figures. To be completely honest a lot of my trouble making began when my grandmother passed away after suffering a stroke and one of the few people I had a strong attachment to in life was suddenly gone. I was young when she passed but still to this day I can remember her sitting in her blue recliner with the old rotary dial phone beside her on the wall and a little stand with a fresh glass of sweet tea while pap sat across the room puffing a pipe and filing the room with the rich smell of pipe tobacco.

Although I should have been too young to remember much I have a collection of random vivid memories that span the short time I had with her that I'll always cherish even as they fade and become a little less clearer over time and that is part of the reason for this blog to ensure memories stick around.

I remember walking down the hill to her house in the winter with the concrete walkway a sheet of ice suitable for a skating rink and busting my butt on it a time or two, I remember my last visit with her at Hopemont Hospital after the stroke when she couldn't speak but had sent a nurse out to pick me up a pair of boots, I can recall sweet tea in the kitchen, and a few other fond memories of a woman who meant so much to me that even to this day writing this article tears well up in my eyes.

If you're lucky enough to still have your grandmother, grandfather, mother, father, or any other family members or friends that mean a lot to you don't hesitate to visit, call, and spend what time you can because eventually that number that's burnt into your head and always reminds you of home with the warm voice on the other end will ring silent.
