Northern Rough Green Snake - (Opheodrys Aestivus)

The Northern Rough Greensnake (Opheodrys Aestivus) is a non-venomous docile slender snake that has keeled scales and a tail that makes up a third of its total length. This snake is usually found in vines, bushes, or grass and prefers mountain areas but are also known to occur less frequently in lower elevations. They may attain a length of 45 inches and are identifiable by a green body color with a white or yellow belly. The Northern Rough Green Snake feeds on small insects and spiders and breeding can produce up to 14 cream colored eggs that are usually laid in loose dirt or under debris. I would rate this one as having a decent pet interest given its docile attitude and small size.

I've encountered this species before in high school and found it to be very reluctant to strike as I picked it up and took it to school.
